BRENTWOOD FAIRTRADE
ABOUT US
The Brentwood Fairtrade Campaign Steering Group was formed in 2007, working towards promoting an increased commitment in Brentwood for supporting poor producers in developing countries. The Group quickly established connections with other groups in Essex, with the local council and with local businesses. In 2008, Brentwood Borough Council passed a resolution to support the Steering Group's campaign for Brentwood to achieve recognition from the Fairtrade Foundation as an official Fairtrade Borough.
With a small group of core volunteers, the Group began organising regular events in Brentwood, with stalls and displays in Brentwood High Street and at the Brentwood Festival, working with the Chamber of Commerce and Pheonix FM as well as many other local businesses. In 2011, Brentwood was granted official Fairtrade Borough Status. Since then, the Group has continued to work tirelessly in promoting Brentwood as a Fairtrade Borough, organising annual events for Fairtrade Fortnight and supporting local businesses by certifying them as Fairtrade supporters.
